Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

RoadsBC operates roadsbc.com and a network of BC highway and ferry status sites. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It applies across every site in the network.

Who's responsible

RoadsBC is operated by Scott Mitchell, based in Victoria, British Columbia. Scott is the designated Privacy Officer and can be reached at scott@roadsbc.com.

What we collect

If you sign up for closure alerts: your email address, and which corridor you subscribed to. That's it. We don't ask for your name, phone number, or anything else.

If you enable browser push alerts: a push subscription token issued by your browser, which lets us send a notification to that specific browser. It doesn't identify you personally.

If you submit a driver report: the status you selected and any comment you wrote. Reports are anonymous — we don't attach your email or any identifier.

If you just visit: aggregate page-view analytics with no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking, and no advertising pixels.

What we don't do

We don't sell, rent, or share your email address. We don't run programmatic advertising, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking scripts. We don't build profiles of individual visitors.

Where your data goes

Alert emails are sent through Resend, and subscriber records are stored in Supabase. Both process data on servers that may be located outside Canada, including in the United States. By subscribing, you consent to that transfer.

How long we keep it

Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe, at which point it's removed. Push subscriptions are deleted automatically when a browser reports them as expired. Driver reports are retained as part of the corridor's public record.

Unsubscribing

Every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link that requires no login and no preference centre. It takes effect immediately. You can also email scott@roadsbc.com and we'll remove you.

Your rights

Under BC's Personal Information Protection Act, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for corrections, or ask us to delete it. Email scott@roadsbc.com and we'll respond within 30 business days.

Data from DriveBC and BC Ferries

Road status and camera imagery come from DriveBC's public Open511 API and camera feeds, published by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit. Ferry capacity data comes from public BC Ferries information. This site is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by DriveBC, the Ministry, or British Columbia Ferry Services Inc.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top and note the change on the page.
